I started getting interested in couponing around the December holidays 2010 (about 2 months ago), so I haven't been doing it long. I have gravitated more towards saving at Rite Aid, because you can get the best deals there, and they don't have all kinds of restrictions like Walgreens (and I've heard, CVS). In the past couple of weeks, my post-it notes and ziploc bags full of coupons have turned into a spreadsheet, which I keep in a sheet protector and then I throw the ziploc bag and my calculator and small scizzors inside it. I've seen people with their coupon binders in the stores, and I do have a zipper binder to organize my leftover coupons... but it doesn't leave the house.
The main thing I've learned so far in my adventures in couponing is to keep your inserts!!! I get the Sunday paper. Well, two of them. The Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News. And I read them (!!!) and then shred them to reuse as kitty litter. When I get the coupons on Sunday, I don't clip them. I just write on the top their abbreviation and date. It looks something like this SS 1/30 (Smart Source from Jan. 30) or RP 1/23 (Red Plum). Speaking of the Red Plum, I love this insert! It comes in the mail on Tuesdays. I live in an apartment complex, where there is a bank of mailboxes. Lots of folks discard their coupons. So I grab theirs from the trash. Yes, I know this sounds gross, but trust me, there is nothing but junk mail in these trash bins. So, every week, I have 6-8 copies of the RP.
This blog will be a place where I post bragging photos of my hauls, and I welcome you to post yours as well! I hope you do... I mostly get canned food and beauty/staple items (such as toilet paper, OTC meds, deodorant, lotion, and bodywash), and there are many out there that get specific in different areas, like baby items, or kids items. I call my shopping/couponing style "bachelor items."
